The present drawing shows the influences of his teacher, Carlo Carlone, both in style and composition and can therefore be dated to his early years, prior to 1780. The drawing served as a model for a complete ceiling decoration, most likely of a private home as the subject is non-religious. Similar brush and ink drawings by Rocco Comaneddi are in the Ambrosiana in Milano, all depicting complete ceiling studies (inv.nos.94, 1792, 1798).
