Aeneas, Anchises and Ascanius II is part of the “LIVING GODS” exhibition. For the series, Reinar Foreman was inspired by Antiquity's legends and stories, seeking to reinterpret myths by updating them to contemporary audiences. Halfway between figurative art and abstraction, he shows the powerful, sometimes severe, nature of human emotions, with simplified but vibrant shapes and colors. This complex vision of ancient mythology gives Foreman's paintings a particular magic. The painting references the composition of Gian Lorenzo Bernini's sculpture Aeneas, Anchises and Ascanius (1621-1622).
